About the artists

MOVE & LEISURE STATE

Ben Taaffe

Ben Taaffe is an avid collector of sound and music, a prominent Australian DJ, promoter, sound artist, and recreational dancer based in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). He has been working in collaborative projects with local and international artists, venues, promoters and community members across a broad range of practices involving sound, music, performance, space activation and events over the last 20 years. He’s the man behind Move events and Freedom Time Festival, Part-time public programme producer at WA Museum Boola Bardip and he is part of the Interzone, Planet X and System collectives. Ben is also a co-host the long-running dance and new music radio show, Underground Solution, on RTRFM. He also holds a PhD in politics and sociology at Murdoch University, investigating the intersections of music, social change and politics in the lives of young people.

Alex Coles

Alex Coles is a Perth based stage/lighting designer, installation artist, technician, DJ and event promoter. He has been a passionate and pro-active member in the Perth music and arts communities for the last 10 years. Alex has produced stage and lighting designs and installations for large scale dance music events including Planet X, Freedom Time, System, Interzone and his own event series Leisure State. Through his considered and creative approach to dance music events and spaces, Alex creates uniquely energising contexts for enjoyment, refreshment, free expression and connection, supporting emerging Perth producers and artists with an inclusive, community focus.

Limited seating will be available. We recommend bringing comfortable clothing and your dancing shoes.

Latecomers:

This venue has a limited capacity. When this capacity is reached, entry will have a one-in, one-out policy.

Triggers:

This event may have smoke and strobe lighting.

Food & Drink:

Food (from Big Loaf) and beverages (from Gage Roads) will be available for purchase at the event. BYO is not permitted.

Facilities:

Toilets, including all-access toilets, are available at the Maritime Musuem.

Wilson Parking – Victoria Quay Car Park is located next to the WA Maritime Museum

Public Transport: The WA Maritime Museum is a 9 minute walk from Fremantle Train Station. Alternatively, catch the the Blue Fremantle CAT bus to Philimore St, Stop No. 10444.

The WA Maritime Museum is fully accessible venue.

Accessible parking at the Wilson Parking – Victoria Quay Car Park is located next to the WA Maritime Museum, allowing a short 30m walk to the venue.
